Would it be worth fitting new cams with standard ECU? Nothing crazy, this is what ive seen....
Powerband : 1500-6700rpm ; Power increase : 15bhp
Inlet duration : 264 deg ; Exhaust duration : 264 deg
Inlet valve lift : .400"/10.16mm ; Exhaust valve lift : .400"/10.16mm
(Valve lifts quoted assume a rocker ratio of 1:1. )
Timing (Inlet open - close) / (Exhaust open - close) : 22-62/62-22
Inlet full lift (ATDC) : 110 deg ; Exhaust full lift (BTDC) : 110 deg

but a lot cheaper than the £350 RRP. I know it wont see as good a gain as it would with a suitable chip, but will it be a waste of money on its own?

i sold 2 sets od 264's.....

One to AdamB, and 1 to OllieH i think...

They are supposed to be able to run on std management, retaining hydraulic follower setup etc.... but as with most things, you will need to spend more to get the full 15bhp or so gain...

I'd fit a UNICHIP, verniers and ARP rod bolts to complement them

they are on ebay for £150 at the moment with 22 hours left, if they goes for less than £200 then i might be tempted, even if i dont fit em straight away. Im not gonna bother doing loads of tuning with the XE cos it will work out better saving for LET in a few years possibly, or just selling the car when i move to spain in 2 years!

Good base point though Adam, plus dumping the AFM helps no end. emerald mapped a nova recently with induction kit and 2" exhaust system, made 174bhp, not bad. for an other wise std engine. (Oh it had ARP's in though)

i had K&N, QED cams, Piper vernier pulleys, ARP rod bolts and 2 1/4 inch exhaust.

made just shy of 170 on a standard ecu and without the pulleys being properly set up

When fitting cams, would you also bother fitting lifters, springs and gubbins?

not for 264's..

I have for my 274/280 setup.... above 274 you'd really need to move to solid type lifters (new springs/caps/seats too)

Really, I'm sure you can still get away with hydrolic lifts till 285deg 11mm lift cams, and I know someone on 300deg cams on hydrolics, but he's gone to double valves springs now.

XE3 - +22bhp

By changing the camshafts* and software V-Max are able to deliver a significant increase in power and torque to this engine. Fuel pressure is increased to 3.5 bar and should be run on Optimax fuel for best power gains. RPM Level 7500rpm.

*Camshafts and fuel pressure regulator are on exchange

XE3 Price = £449
Fitting of full kit = £80

thats the way mines going after xmas, should make me 190 with the head work as well! be happy till i 21 and can insure a LET!!
id say get them and chuck them in!

your kidding me you'd pay that for only a reground camshaft, uprated fuel pressure regualtor and possibly not that "quoted" gain....
