i had a site with some hosts
they said they were moving 'datacentres' on tuesday, and site would be down 1-3 days. informed me to back up sql's
when i got home on monday, site was gone, so the back up was not possible
the site is still not online today, and dont look like it will be anytime soon
basically they have lost my full site. where do i stand? can i get compensation or is it just one of those internet things?

if they said you should backup and the t&c's dont say anything about them backing up your stuff, then you're own your own on this one
however, send them a nice email anyways and see what they say, they may have a backup, you never know

You can probably sue for loss of earnings... If you can prove you have lost income from your site not being available. Then again, it will probably say in the T's & C's from your host that you are responsible for making your own backups of the site.
