when we carried out the engine conversion on my corsa (when my mate owned it)(mainly done by 2 other mates of his but helped by me a little)
the engine was fitted and then tried to start it, would not start.
the cav it was taken from had an ecu (my brothers nova did not(same engine from same year cav!))
so the ecu and loom was fitted and hey presto it fired into life!
but i want to know why it would not start without the ecu, its the isuzu 1.7 td lump with mechanical pump! same as my bros but still needed ecu! and its nowhere near as quick as his either.
not goin take it out, i just wanna know why it has one if the pump is mechanical

i can tell you now it is not an ecu, the isuzu engines did not start using an ecu until they reached the new civic and corsa.

i know that, my brother nova did not need one, but for some reason, we hard wired the engine in with the corsa loom and without the box it would not start.
no fuel getting through.

erm it may be a mechanical pump, but the injectors will still be opened by an electrical impulse from the ecu.. hence why it wouldnt start
