I spent 2 weeks sat in a cafe type place playing cards, smoking fags, reading books, listening to tunes and doing nothing. Didn't get called once. Got a good fews days off work though when they didn't need me!

Was a top laugh!

mate did started last week and a work colleague has also started this week.

you fill out a form showing your current earnings and they give you exactly what you're not earning from work.
travel is paid for i think 26p a mile, parking you claim back on expenses, food allowance of £4 a day which you claim back.
apparently you arrive at 9.30 or whatever and don't necesarrily get called in untill late morning. work colleage had day off today because the judge had to go to London! (xmas shopping?)

mate last week had a case of a couple of scousers coming down and setting on someone from Uxbridge, who proceeded in kicking the shite out of two of this group. they claimed he had assaulted them etc, but lots of witnesses contradicted it. apparently it was quite amusing listening to contradicting evidence from a few landladies.
that case took 4days, so he got friday off and started a new case monday, which is a rape case.

the other mates case this week is about a chap who was drug driving whilst banned and killed another motorist in a crash. he denies being the driver!

I'm not sure on the legalities of this but does anyone know how much you can discuss and how much you cannot?

Can't help feeling that there's a bit too much detail in some posts in here and I am the cautious type

technically i don't think you're supposed to divulge any of it till the case is finished.
i was purposely vague in description of the two current ones that i mentioned, but i'll happily take what i've said out if you wish.

Im a Prisoner Custody Officer in a Crown Court. Which court are you going to?

You're not aloud to talk about the case because you could be influenced. Its not that the case is top secret, because courts are public and anyone can sit on any case. But obviously, being one of the 12 who brings the verdict, you cannot talk about it.

You wont find out which case you're on until you actually get there. usually around 15 jurers are called into court and the court clerk calls out your name, you then go into the jury seats. Once 12 names have been called the remaining jurers are asked to leave. They'll go back to the jury room and wait to be called to another case.
