Author Wierd noise with K&N induction kit

since i fitted the induction kit on my 1.8 Sri theres a reeally annoying clattering noise at about 2000rpm. It only happens when the car is under load (not when I rev it) and it gets worse when its warm.
I've checked everything and I can't find anything loose and when I tride it without any air box it more or less went away.
It sounds like pinking, but that's way over my head.
Can anyone help?? :boggle:

Take the filter off and drive the car a few metres down the road to see if it still happens.

Whatever the outcome, fit a Pipercross filter instead.

Yes, with a modified air intake to the box, and better pipe work from the box to the throttle body

No, that would be a very bad idea he already has a filter he just needs to find out what's making the noise. And if he changed his crap cotton-gauze filter, why would he want to replace it with a more expensive crap cotton-gauze filter?
