Hi, im very seriously thibnking about getting a basic corsa, and carrying out an engine conversion as a cheap fun project for the next 3 months.
Ive a few options,But what one?
FIRST OPTION
get a cav with c20seh, 2.0 8v 130 bhp
good points,
I can get this for under £100,
slightly cheaper insurance than c20xe
easily tuned
easily rebuilt
bad points,
Doesnt have the "wow" factor for shows etc
slower than c20xe
SECOND OPTION:
c20xe from a mk3 cav sri
good points:
Fast strong engine,(motorsport heritage)
looks good in engine bay (shows etc)
can be further tuned quite alot
Bad points,
Car will cost me at least £500
harder to rebuild
more complicated conversion (will have to shorten drive shaft and machine hubs, but im an engineer, and can do this, so not soo important)
slightly more on insurance
3rd option
nova 1.6 engine (not quite as keen on this performance wise, but least its a bit different??)
What do you think
ps sorry 4 the long post

option ONE
may not look as nice as the c20xe but.....can be made to look nice with a bit of powder coating....silicon hoses etc etc
easier to fit aswell........

You would need to use all the same conversion parts, including the driveshafts and hubs for the 8v as you would with the 16v. They are more or less the same engine with a different head on the outside and they use a big block gearbox which needs the bigger CV's and shortened driveshafts.

Oh, apart from the power cap, that isn't needed...

I was under the impression that the f16 gearbox, shafts, hubs etc could be used? (as they can withstand the torque etc) and simply bolts on?
As i was gonna buy a corsa b with the c20seh conversion where the f16 parts had been used?
also what mounts are used?

An F16 gearbox is a big block gearbox. You will need all of the big block gearbox parts to use it, so hubs, CV's and shafts. Same as a 2.0 16v conversion.....

You use the Corsa 2.0 front engine mount and the Corsa gearbox mounts - possibly with the rear gearbox spacer... Not sure what its for though

Also, don't get a Nova 1.6 engine, thats a silly idea. Get a Corsa 1.6 engine. You want fuel injection not carbs.

was just i could get hold of one for pennies. But the c20xe conversion is tempting at the mo, just as much work as 2.0 8v, but more power (wee bit more on insurance, but u only live once)
Ideally id get the c16xe on throttle bodies,(fast, good handling, sound amazing) but thats way 2 expensive!
