What the hell is a W12 engine? Is it like a V12 but even cooler? Are they worth the £82k price tag of the new A8?

2 V6's next to each other it think, not inline, parrallel, hence they look like a "W" shape .

Think about the shape of a V which is the way the cylinders are in relationship with each other, then think of a W. Except there isn't two crank shafts, theres one which makes a weird sort of W like two V's overlapping....erm...you understand?

well techicall there corect, it proved to wrok though,
when you have a look at the engine diagram though (the block cost £12000 btw )
it doesnt look like a W in any way

They're the timing chains, quite a few engines use them, even the 1.0 12v in the Corsa... The plastic bits are to tension the chains
