there is a bearing on the end of the milaige unit, thiink there are 4 or 5 screw that seperate the facia from the white plastic housing, in there you see the unit, remove that, and connect a dremal etc to the brass bearing at the end and turn back

Or just jam a screwdriver in there and tick back the milage by pushing down on the white cogs... Think that could break it though. Done it on all the dashes I have tride in my car, not broken any yet though

my mate set his mileage back about 20k (on purpose!!!) - his mileage way like 60k and he wanted it back to 40k so he'd get more when selling it lol.
After driving about a while he noticed irratic mileage changes on the dash he'd fucked one of the cogs and every 10 miles it started going up about like 1000 lol!!!

I got my mileage back on a corsa one easily, the mileage still counted up perfectly, but then i realised I had fecked up (snapped) the wee coil thing that tells the speedo to stay put, and send it back to 0 when it should, so the needle just kept moving about.
Dont think thats fixable though

why is it? my car is gettin a different engine, and different dash.
the shell has done 80k, engine done 30k, and dash had done 95k so i'm putting it to 000000 for when the engine goes in this week. so i know how many miles the car has done since the conversion.

That is illegal
Its not actually illegal to alter mileage but it is a serious offence to sell a vehicle with intent to defraud. If you ever want to sell the car you must be able to provide the correct mileage details, either recorded directly or explained clearly to the buyer, ie. clocks replaced when the old ones failed at 30k, add 30k on to current reading for example.
