my mates got a 106 gti and his gear box is fooked, where is the best place and also cheapest to get a new gearbox from, and another q, does the saxo gearbox fit the same the same?

VTS / GTI gearboxses are the same, try a scrappies for one or look on SSC or 106 site to see if any are for sale

I've heard of people fitted VTR gear boxes to Gti's...

yeah this happens but in effect is the same as putting a GSI gearbox on an SRI

vtr gearbox will only do 55 in second whereas vts will do 60ish

yeh fair enough if your talking about 0-60 - but I've heard VTR box on a Gti makes it quicker in acceleration on 1/4 mile etc... (less top end though)
