Do i need to switch all the electric off in the house or can I just switch the origional light of at the switch and then work away?

Silly question but im not an electrician lol

u need to turn the electrics off

Just take the fuse out of the light circuit or switch the power off

If you're on an RCD just flip the circuit for the lights off. If you are on an older fuse box with individual fuses pull the one for the lights. At least you know that way the power is definately off.

Electrics need to be off..

My fuse box is split...so seperate switches for

Lights up stairs
lights down stairs
Ring main up stairs
ring main down stairs..
shower

Makes life a whole lot easier..........

turn the light on then find ur fuse box and flick them off till that light goes off, then work away.

lol call an ambulance before you try
seriously the safe option is to switch all the electric of the house but if you just want to change a light just make sure you don't touch wires...

lol cheers people, Ill switch all the power off at the mains then... Although will need to wait till next weekend now so i can work at it with day light

don't connect all the blacks and all the reds together.

one of the blacks is actually a switched live coming back from the light switch. and should (but never is) marked with red tape or a red sleeve.

Went to fit the new light today and noticed there is no earth point comin from the mains... The light set is halogen and there is an earth on the light, so, i need an earth in the mains dont i or a new light lol????
