10W 40 cos its common as feck and Vauhall say to use it.

Depends - your obviously wondering whats best for your engine - no? What engine you running, what mileage and how do you drive?

an oil fortifier in a easy to understand way makes the oil thicker but it still has the qualitys of 10wt40 oil the lucas stuff i use restores oil pressure in older and higher milage engines stops minor oil leeks (this works to) and gives better compression to older engines also works i tested the compressions befor and after and it did increese

exactly,
i doubt the oil thickness will effect the performance of your car.
if my 1.6 was running like a 1.2 i'd stick with 10w40 and take it to a garage for a service and see what they think.

5 litres a month is rediculous!! You have a serious problem - either rings are worn or valve stem seals are shot! Do you have a leak? If not its godda be smoking like a cunt to use that much? I wouldnt worry about what oil you use until you get your engine fixed...

well theres no black smoke just wen i start it up from cold theres a bit of smoke then but its white! also iv had compression test and thats fine but it will use lots of oil if its semi wen i use fully it lasts a couple of months on 3,5 litres! plugs and leads which ones? how about breathers for the air there making a ticking my mechanic says its not tap hits! compression test tells me if valve seals are knackered and pistons are worn and that test was ok! went to vauxhal they said i dont know wat tests they will do on it but they will look in some places take some parts off engine and check but will need car for whole day wat with labour of £55 an hour fuck that!

Take it to a good backstreet garage, they will do compressions and leak-down tests. You sure it aint leaking? Have you tried Griffin Spares over at Dudley, they know there stuff with Vauxhalls.

To use 5 litres a month and not blow black smoke is impossible. You have something seriously wrong with your engine. My 1.6 needed about a 3/4 litre every 3-4 months, and i used to drive fairly hard. Must be leaking from sump, or rocker cover if its not blowing smoke like theres no tomorrow, fact. 5W-40 on any Corsa B is way to thin, needs to be much more viscous, 10W-40 for more recent engines, and 15w-40 for old engines/ high mileage.

Yes youve had a compression test but what about a leak down test? Could it be leaking from somewhere only when the engine is running. Listen, there's NO way if its not leaking that it cant be smoking if its using a whole engine full every month!

Only other thing is that the oil is passing into the coolant but your coolant level would be rising if that was the case and water would go gooey.

When you check the level of your oil you are waiting for a while once the engine has stopped arent you, to let it all go back into the sump.

My 14 year old 20XE engine which has well over 100K on the clocks uses a LOT less oil that yours and mine has a bloody leak from the sump/cam shaft seal!!
