Hi,
I've been having this problem for the last couple of days. If I try to click on my documents or control panel in windows I get the following message:
Error Report - Windows encountered a problem and needs to close.
Technical data:
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.1106 Offset: 00033ec0
Then the windows bar at the bottom disappears and then reappears.
Any ideas?

Sounds like your Explorer is shagg*d, you could always try a repair if your running Windows XP Pro.
One thing that you can always try before messing bout with the Repair through the wonderfull BLUE SCREENS of XP is pop in your Windows XP CD if this is what your running and run this command..
sfc /scannow

That is just explorer.exe - thing that provides all My Computer windows and task bar - restarting.

If you have your windows XP CD if this is the operating system your running. Pop the CD in your drive.
It will load up a splash screen. You can close that screen as you wont need it. Once you have closed the Splash screen.
Click on START -> Run
Then on the Run box where it says open. Type sfc /scannow

Update to SP2 if running Win XP or just reinstall IE.
If that doesn't work copy the explorer.exe file off another system running the same OS making a backup of your original file.
Or you could try the format c: option

Its not a problem with IE though. Its actually his Windows Explorer crashing.

IE being integrated into Explorer, so problems with IE can cause Explorer to crash, just not under the circumstances above. Try installing/reinstalling SP2, or Windows repair.

Thanks for the help... I am running xp and dont have the cd.

well at the moment , i can still open word files and things.
Just downloaded adware and when it was searching my hard drive this pop up messsage come up saying.. RT secuirty or something was shutting down my pc, it counted down from 60 seconds and restart during the search.
Any ideas?

SP2 on the flip side could completely balls up your pc.. don't know unless you try tho

The Best option there Was Go to Start>Run Type CMD ats the command Prompt Type SFC/scannow

SP2 could be a good idea, your problems most definately result from a corurupt registry entry, installing SP2 might overwrite some registry info thats important and restore vital functions like RPC. Get yourself a prgram like registry mechanic or tuneup utilities 2004 to see oif there is any dodgy registry enties that need rectifying. Thats my 2 cents anyway. Most my XP problems stem from reg nowadays.
