Anyone carried out a rebuild to this spec?
Re-bore (advised) (0.5 or 1mm oversize) - £117.50
Skim top of block - £59
Supply and fit oil spray nozzles for piston cooling - £289
Big end bearing shells - £35
Modified main bearing shells - £79
Arrow Steel con-rods (fitted with ARP rod bolts - £775
Forged Low compression pistons in either 86/86.5/87mm sizes - £499
Labour to strip, build and test block - £350
Steel head gasket - £39
New Oil pump - £125
New Water Pump - £39
Insured Carriage (including pick up and return of block) - £56.50
studs £25 (set of 10)
Head Stud conversion set - £135
Complete gasket set (excluding steel head gasket)- £65
Steel Gear (inner) for oil pump - £105.75
Nylon pressure release valve - £53.46
Lambda Sensor (genuine bosch) - £79
just thinking about the possibility of ditching my idea to build a 2.0 nova/corsa and use a c20let instead...... built to a decent spec of course, solid base for big boost turbo
Wallace Performance claim power of around 475bhp is obtainable with a solid block like that.... thoughts?

That goes without saying, but i've got a whole , or near as damn well, spare c20xe lying around in bits.... so instead of building that up...
i could find a tired c20let block/head with a knackered turbo and maybe even damaged pistons/bores (within reason) and build it up.... then decide on which turbo/FMIC.injectors/ECU etc etc

475bhp. Is that using a standard KKK??. Co's if it is claiming that output is right. You'll never see that figure using a standard turbo.
All the other stuff is stregnthening the engine and replacing components. Even the lower compression pistons aren't gonna give you that much.
if you want to do something interesting with an LET look here.
http://www.angryturbo.co.uk/
If that don't work, follow the links from here. have a look at the vids on this site too, to see what can be achieved with a turbo'd 2.0 8v SEH.

paula - no.... that is just a stengthened engine..... and CAPABLE of producing said power.... I know an uprated turbo/fueling/cooling would be needed
of course pistons dont add power (unless cc is increased), i'm not stupid

That's an awful lot of money though, just to stregnthen an engine, don't you think??. I wasn't being funny , nor did I think you were stupid.

Tbh adam, i dont think anyone has tested a lump of that spec to destruction yet.
Apparently a good set of standard rods can take a fair bit of abuse (around 350bhp is thin line where failures are expected) there has been talk of the center main bearing area being a particular weakness on the c20let block.
if you do build up a let there are alot of the internals from your xe you can use: the conrods and crank are the same, as is the head (including the valves i belive)
The only extras you would need are the inlet manifold (complete with throttle body, the two valves and injectors etc), exhaust manifold, and the other little fiddly bits - afm amel valve etc..
oh and low comp pistons of course.
the xe block can be machined to take the turbo oil feeds and return as the galleries are just blanked off.
i have a spare xe block converted to a let in my garden too

Yes already built, need to finish shell off though, few people know about it on here.
Wallace sold me the software, all the work from their max engine pack was carried out by me and and my brother (who has also built one but with Wallace performance evo4 software) I've gone with evo6.
Cost £3400 to build, including T04B Hybrid and H-section 87mm pistons.

would be easier getting a complete c20let lump to start...
my spare xe bottom end is at its max bore 88mm with a bit of scoring on 1.... liners could be added i pressume tho...
I know the rods are a bit over kill, but if i wanted a reliable big power.... then why not.... prevention is the best way to fix a problem

I'd stick to around 330hp with turbo. you want a turbo thats going to build up gently with no sudden increase in boost. say peak power around 7200rpm power band from around 4500rpm.

Agreed, it's no good building upto 3k revs with no hint of a boost surge, then boom, could be lethal in the ownership of the village boyracer/idiot.
