is it alright to actually do this? i've heard storeys that it has fecked some engines up?
is there a technique to it?
or is it just a case of empting the bottle of gunk into the oil filler cap

Wouldn't flush the engine.
May feel good first of all but aint good in the long run.
Where parts have worn on an older engine, all the sludgy crap stuff fills these gaps, this'll stop leaking and stuff.
the moment you flush it out, all the sludge has gone and round all the old parts where they were worn you'll have holes and it wont be air tight anywhere..
you're better off changing oil more regularly

My car has done 85K always with synthetic oil
All cylinders have 98% of their original compression
Ther's no sludge or whatsoever
You really need to flush everytime you change oil
My engine is as clean as when it was new

yeah in the past i've always done it like it said in that link... using a flushing oil is like a gentle rinse round the inside as opposed to puttin some harsh chemical in there! Plus i've heard that if any of your gaskets are getting a little bit aged, engine flush will break it right thru so then u gotta change em all! Not sure if thats true but it seems possible
