"turbo handling was supprisingly good, not very quick though"
what do you drive every day out of interest? MR2 turbo is a damn quick car for the money!

and the MR2 seemed slow???
or just not what you were expecting?
Only asking out of interest really fella, as I have a friend with a mildly tuned MR2 Tub (approx 270/280bhp) and it goes like stink. Happily sits alongside another friends E36 BMW M3 Evo right through all the gears.... hardly slow for a car from many moons ago IMO?

Non turbo is ok, 0-60 in around 7-8 seconds which isnt really that "cack".
Turbo is a rocket.

Both cars I did drive very hard and both were standard, the turbo felt very slow, didn't want to pick up till at least over 80mph its not a heavy car either, very good handling though even in the wet.
The Auto R33 GTS Ive also driven seemed and most probably was at least X3 quicker.

they are heavy for a 2seater, about 1200kgs, but thats still pretty light!
As for being sluggish untill 80mph... the car was either shagged, or you werent driving it hard enough (probably the first option as you already drive a jap tubby)
they are literally blistering off the line in standard trim, as said, about 5.5 to 60mph... all points to the one you drove being a dog!!
I have beaten an MR2 turbo in my old GTE 16v banger... but the car was running BADLY!! It revved up fine, but the boost didnt seem to be making it to the inlet... which lead to normal 2.0ltr N/A like power....

The Blown MR2 must have been running very badly cos they are fooking quick, same engine as the Celica GT4, 240BHP from the factory but many actually have more like 270 in standard form, with a good chip exhaust and filter these babies run 300BHP, they are NOT slow, plus rear wheel drive is so fun

Oh yeah Turbos are import only but they come with a high spec the one to go for is a Rev 3 Import Turbo this is the quickest one, 1994-1996

this could be the reason, It just felt like there was no power there at all, I mean im no expert on twin entery turbos or anything but I expected some sort of kick from it.
Anyway, like I said it was probably the best handling standard car ive driven in the wet, shame about the rest of the car.

RWD mid-mounted is SO twitchy dont you mean Kris!!
My old man managed to spin his girlfriends naturally aspirated MR2 360 degrees in the wet... and the turbo's power delivery just adds to this problem.
Gotta keep on top of them or they catch you out quick!!

I completly dissagree with that sorry, I understand that when a MR car lets go.. It really does let go!, but I found that it was very hard to make the car actully go that far.

basicly it means that the two turbos get there own supply of gasses from the engine, the first turbo gets gases from the nymber 1 and 4 cylinders and the 2nd turbo gets its gasses from number 2 and 4. supposed to give better low down performance i.e less lag.

Not sure about the handling in the wet? Very easy to spin in the wet. Very easy to end up in a ditch even in the dry if your not carefull. Very unforgiving when you get it wrong. One i've been in was a rev4 that started off at 240bhp and after a decat, exhaust , chip from dastek and a filter it was running 313bhp. 13.3 quarter and the fastest thing i've been in. M3's, carrera 4's and the odd NSX are all cannon fodder.
