I have a C16XE head currently at an engineering shop waiting to have some work done on it. I gave it to them with the cams on so that the tappets wouldn't fall out when I was carrying it etc, and they want an hours labour to take them off! Also they said something about de-hydraulicing the tappets - costing me 35 quid? I read in the haynes manual that you just take them out and submerge them in oil? Im not really clued up on this so I just want to know if they are trying to pull a fast one?

Its needing welded in places then skimmed, and a bolt drilled out. But I'm trying to get another head instead of having this work done. I just want to know what de-hydraulicing the tappets means?

It's means you don't knwo what they are talkign about will say yes to another £35, and an hours labour to take out the cams, that's 5mins at best.
I'd take it to another place tbh.
AJBek on migweb is selling a head for tha engine for £40 at the mo, have a look in the forsays, he's in scotland somewhere.

I fail to see what would be wrong with using the X16XE head, esp at £40 too.
And yes they are ghey lords.

It was only the cylinder head he was selling, no inlet etc, I have all the parts for C16XE.

C16XE inlet etc would fit the X16XE head?
They are pulling a fast one.

Yeah the inlet etc for the C16XE will probably fit the X16XE, but in that case I'd just use my X14XE head anyway.

the early X14XE heads are the same as the C16XE heads anyways

How early? My X14XE is in a 1996 car. I thought the C16XE was unique in the fact it had slightly larger exhaust valves?

It's the port shape that is different on the C16XE's it won't hurt the engine to run a different head, it will still work.

Yeah the inlet ports are a different shape! So if I use the X14 head, and the C16 inlet manifold etc, what would happen to the EGR on the X14 head?

the inlet manifold on the C16 just blocks it off the C16 head has the EGR bit cast in to it anyways.
