NTL have been today and put in a new set top box so i can get the 2MB upgrade.
well after spending most of the day on the phone trying to get it sorted, im finally back on the net, so i checked the speed:
Direction ----- Actual Speed -------True Speed (estimated)
Downstream---854 Kbps (106.8 KB/sec) ----922 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream -----121 Kbps (15.1 KB/sec) ----130 Kbps (inc. overheads)
