Pretty sure it has a pinto engine, or a BDA, the YB's are the cosworth units in the Saff and Escort. The RS200 had the BDT engine.

nice cars, my dad used to rally a RS1600 back in the day had a whopping 130BHP on twin 40's BDA unit.

shame XE'd nova would destroy one now adays.

You can't stick a YB on carbs. (Well you can but it costs lots to swap from turbo set up to N/A)
That's all I meant

someone desnt know anything
all you need to do is raise the compression ratio, and use omex management or similar with the carbs

Still awaiting funds Stu

Thanks for the concern mate

And on a brighter note, and talking of spending money I haven't got, i've just bought a Sierra.
She is a bit poorly but was dirt cheap and is equipped with Clifford security, a Snooper and best of all - N2O

Now i've got no transport and two cars to fix - i'm an idiot

Average price of a Pinto - £100
Average price of a BDA - Five grand upwards

Yes, all standard RS2000s had Pintos, it was the RS 1600 and 1800 that had the BDA (16 valve).

Cosworth developed the YB series of engines for Ford from the Pinto block, for use in Sierra and Escort production and motorsport cars.

YB engines do fit in Escorts. They've been fitted hundreds of times over the past 13 years or so, both in turbo charged form or, with raised compression, on carbs or throttle bodies.

They are a relatively economical way of achieving good power in a MK 1 or 2 Escort and depending on aspiration and spec would achieve anything from 200+ up to 650+ horsepower, so probably wouldn't struggle with your average XE or LET powered Corsa. (please, no offence intended)

A good example of a huge power car would be Paul Bailey's early 90's Thundersaloon car which was a red 'X' pack MK 2 RS2000 with a Turbo YB engine.

The car was good for 175 mph with short gearing and could push 200 with long gearing.

An interesting side effect of the shorter gearing was that the car would wheelspin wildly in 5th gear in the wet at 150mph.

It was also capable of breaking traction in the dry at flat out speeds, and throwing bits of rubber over the pit lane wall on the start finish straight of at least one of the UK's major race circuits.

My ideal car realy.

Fair enough you only need to change pistons, manifolds, cams. But getting hold of a YB isn't all that cheap.
I'd call 3-4k at an engine pretty expensive really.
