advent are one of many companies that re-badge their products. i.e they come in as one unbranded brand form china or wherever then advent re-badge them and install thier software, but in answer to your question, i've had one for 4 years now and its fine

I'd get a Toshiba...
If you get a laptop, get one with Centrino processor because it uses less power for when you use it mobile. Also, when using it from the mains, remove the battery first - running it plugged in with the battery in it will fcuk the battery

ive got an advent laptop, had it for about 2 years, it can be a bit temperamental turning on and it was a shit design cos the fan is on the bottom of the laptop, so if i keep it on my lap then it blocks the fan and it overheats, then it turns off
but apart from that, pretty stable

Thinking about it, I guess the places for a fan on a laptop are limited!

Yeah good idea to check where that fan is if you gonna be using it on your lap. Maybe a trip to PC World to examine some would be an idea.
