FIA seeking BAR disqualification

BAR's season could rest on the hearing in Paris
Formula One chiefs have asked for BAR-Honda to be disqualified from this year's championship at an appeal hearing in Paris on Wednesday.
Jenson Button's car was found to be five kilogrammes below the 600kg minimum weight at the San Marino GP.

"The FIA asks the court to exclude the BAR team from the world championship and to fine the team at least one million euros," a FIA statement read.

Bit harsh to ban them for the full season, and 1,000,000 euro fine.

Think personally they should just have their points taken away thus far.

If anything at all.

Agree with you two, it's a damn good idea

I know ffs it's only five bags of sugar. Granted that gives a lot of diffirence in these races but not worth a seasons ban and fine etc. bet they aren't the first and won't be the last to do something like this

Think it's a brilliant idea, but like all things when you cheat it's a matter of time till you get caught, like certain GRP B rally cars.
Just have to face the music when you get busted.

Genious idea really . Its like it in all motorsports i think. Teams get as close to the line as they can, but some decide to step over it alittle and try and get away with it.

they should figure out where BAR would have come if they had the extra weight and give them that place insteed. if the weight difference has won them extra points they should have the extra points removed

i dont think its that great an idea being honest. Its nothing to do with fuelling really theyve just made their car lighter than the rules allow then try and pull the wool over the governing bodies eyes by adding fuel to brig the weight to allowable levels.

I'd love to know how the race officials discovered it.
That is if the info wasn't leaked to them as I suspect is probably the case.

It was leaked by a ex BAR mechanic who left for another team who mentioned it to his new technical director. He then raised it with the FIA who investigated it and this is the outcome.

Todays race was a bit boring with out Button because Im a big fan of his and cant wait for another British F1 Champ, its been long overdue!

so basically the car only weighs 590kg when its got no fuel in it at all, but they add 10kg of fuel at the end to make it weigh 600kg. it took me ages to work that out cos im stoned but that is proper ingenious.

its not cheating because the car always has fuel in it, it never races with zero fuel so is never under 600kg. It just means that when it does have the fuel in it there is less overall weight

I think a ban for the whole season would be stupid!

The ban from the race yesterday and a fine and a few points dropped for the last race i think would be enough.

If thy are breaking the regulations of the race if the cars weight goes below 600kg at any point in the race then they only do this when using their last 10kilos of fuel. This would only be for a few laps at the most cos 10kilos doesn't get them very far and they wouldn't run until they are empty. So on these few laps they may make up to say 1 second in the race.

But then when they put the extra fuel in that hidden tank in the final pit stop they will be losing time. So the time they actually gain in a race is very very small.

And i also wonder how many teams also have been doing the same and have ripped the unit out in fear of being rumbled. I did notice Ferrari were fairly slow on Sunday

Or just give them extra weight to carry for the next x races.

It's sad if they r banned for the full season
