My oil light on the dash keeps comming on for 5-10secs every now and again and normally at speed... Checked oil and all is fine... Could it be a dodgy sensor??

Does sound like starrt of oil pressure problems, oil pump is located at the bottom of the block in the region of oil filter, usualy when the low pressure light comes on on the dash it is to late!!

You should check these things before you fit the engine... It's gonna be a bitch to replace....

how do u check these things.put the engine on a bench dyno and run it if hes bought the engine already out of a car then he cant check it. if its out of a donor car he could but it may of only just started a few weeks down the line

The Haynes manual for the Cavalier has a pretty long part in it telling you how to inspect the oil pump, and renew the seals.

oil pressure check would be the best thing to do.. sensors do become faulty but then again pumps do wear.. hopefully its only the sensor
i think what ed means is replacing the pump before the conversion. expensive but worth it imho.

replacing the seals wont help sometimes and u cant check what sort of preesure its gna run under hard acceleration. i know someone that had a brand new pump from vauxhalls and wasnt making enough pressure to keep the lifters quiet

First thing I would do is check the sensor is grounding on anythign randomly as this brings on the oil light. then get the pressure tested.

I've got a similar problem, if I take a corner sharply for a small distance, like round a round about my oil light will pop on briefly, likely to be the same problem? or is this normal?

how hard is it to change an oil pum on one of them? im planning on taking mine off the road for a few weeks tto do some head work and replace a few bits, oil pump may be one of them as my top end is sounding rather tappy.

ok kool, ,
changed the oil for 5w40 fully synth to see if it made any difference but it was shit so went back to 10w40 semi from halfords, and was still tappy, so gonna go back to vaux's to see if it makes any difference, but i wanna get the tappets out and give them a clean, maybe do a bit of port work and re-seat the valves. new valve stems maybe bigger valves depending on how much private work i get in the next couple of months to cover the bills.
then eventually a set of TB's courtesy of SBD
