my front speakers are run straight of the headunit, my rear speakers are run of a Alpine v12 amp, and just recently the amp/speakers just turns of for a while!!!
i tested the remote wire at the amp side, and it is not showing any power when the headunit is on and the rear speakers have cut out??

if all your wires seem to be connected properly, then it sounds like its going into protection.
This could be due to:
1) Overheating
2) Drop in power supply

the amp actually turns off, so i dont think the speaker wire will affect it, but im using good quality wires from the amp to the speakers and a good phono lead from the headunit to the amp!
its never overheated before, and shoudnt the light go from green to red if in protection mode?? because it completely just turns off (no light at all)!!
i have a feeling the "Remote wire" from the headunit side could be dodgy in this case, what you think??
How can i test the Remote wire to see if its working??

Not sure if the light turns red in protection, i'm not that familiar with your specific amp.
When does it turn off? Straight away? Occassionally? When you go over bumps or round corners? When the music is on really loud?
Also, try checking your earthing point on your chasis. Make sure there is a good clean connection (ie no paint between the metals)

Also make sure that your speaker wires are not touching each other. They could be coming into contact with each other and shorting the amp out

get a light bulb, and wire one connection to an earth, and the other end to the ampifier end of the remote wire. when the amp goes off if the light goes off with it then it is a faulty remote wire.
Or instead you could just replace the remote wire and see what happens

Have you actually done this before?
Would be very risky! The remote output on the headunit is only designed to give a very low current, if you draw too much then you'll blow the remote amplifer inside the HU. I would NOT put a bulb on the remote wire.

i just tried it with a power tester screwdriver and it was fine, didnt pop anything and the remote is working fine, i will try it again when the amp turns of to double check that the remote wire is ok if not then i know something from the headunit is playing up

i tested the remote wire at the amp side when the speakers have cut out, and its not showing any power when the headunit is on???
so i guess its either.. the headunit is fooked and not sending the remote signal or the wire/conenction is dodgy/loose somwere??
what you guys think is likely wrong??
say the headunit is damaged or the remote connection from it cant be fixed... will it be ok to connect the remote wire to the headunits switched ignition power supply??

the Remote wire is dodgy at the the Headunit side!
will it be ok to connect the remote wire from the amp to the Switched ignition at the key barrel??
as it only drains very little current, just enough to tell the amp to turn on, and i know it will always be on when the ignition is which is ok coz i always have the headunit on anyway
