MY misses has a 1.2 8v corsa and the temperature gets close to 100 degrees most of the time.
Now i take it the thermostat cools the engine down?
Basically can someone explain to me how it works and cools the engine down and any websites to point me in the right direction

does it go to 100 when she's driving or when she's stopped in traffic?
i'm sure corsa's should run at 98degree's

if it goes over 100 too far then you have a problem, but just under 100 is ok.
A thermostat works by opening at a certain temperature and allowing the hot water from the engine to go through the radiator and be cooled byt air passing through it. try changing your thermostat as it may be sticking shut and not allowing tthe water to flow properly.

sounds like ure thormostat is stuck shut so it is not opening. when ure engine temp gets up (when ure engine gets hot the thermostat opens letting the hot water out into raditor which cools down) then when water is cool in engine thermostate closes, then repeats when water in engine gets hot again

my 1.4 8v cost me about £4 mite ave been £6.50 at most

Ok she drove 30-40 miles and she said it was near enough on 100.
I open the engine bay up and the whole engine bay was boiling!
Checked the coolant level, about 2-3 cm above the arrow.
Opened the oil cap and there was steem coming from it????
Jumped in the car when it was parked and kept the revs at about 2000-3000 rpm for about 30-60secs. Temp gauge went over 100 nearly touching the RED so i thought i better stop.
The fan is not kicking in, must be somthing to do with the fan? radiheator? hoses blocked? thermostat?
Shall i change the lot?

sounds like something like that... but before changing stuff i think you're best getting someone to have a look at it, so that you arent just wasting miney changing stufff when you aren't sure whats wrong

there is a sensor on the rad that turns the fan on and off
change that first
test the fan to see if its ok
and then change the thermostat

yes thats the price of a thermostat, but on a 1.2 8v you have to remove the timing belt covers which unless he is competant in doing himself it is a garage job and while the timing belt is off hhe might as well go tthrough the water pump, rollers and tensioners and belt renewal. so will be slightly more expensive.

Test the fan too by connecting it directly to the battery with some wire to see if it turns on, next step is to replace the sensor as Adam-D said.
