wanted to withdraw a large amount of cash, to pay for my engine work

convo was like so

"hi, i'd like to withdraw some money, but the cash machine seems to only allow me to take out 250 quid"

"thats correct sir"

"why?"

"because there is a limit on your card"

"why?"

"because we only allow customers to withdraw £250 at any one time"

"ok, but why? i mean, i have my card, and my driving liscence, the money in my account is mine, and you are telling me that i cant withdraw it?"

"take a seat sir, and i'll deal with you in 5 mins"

so i sit down, and 15 mins later, he calls me to his office

i speak first, and say

"look, i dont like the way you spoke to me out there mate, i'm the customer, you're just a bank manager, i want the money which is mine, and i want it today, its mine, i'm me, sort it"

he told me that he couldnt cos the bank didnt carry enough money to give me that sort of cash

so i have to wait 3 days before i can get money out of my account

its fucking outrageous, it my money, and i should be able to get to it when i want, its a current account, not an ISA

i'm gonna close the account next monday, and use my other account with a different bank

gotta give them a cash deposit, and they wont release my car til cheque clears, which normally takes 2-3 days

and they cant finalise price til work is done, as it may take longer than expected on the RR

so, i'd have my car finished, and not be able to get it til the cheque was cleared, thats why i wanna pay cash

its not silly, what if someone stole your card, at worst they can only take £250. theres your reason. my mum use to work at a bank and someone took £6k out. All the need to do is ask at the desk. Its a bit supisous if your taking about hundreds of pounds out via a outside bank thing

Bankers draught? Pay by card?

I'd imagine a £1500 deposit should be sufficient, then get the rest of the money at £1500 a day for however much it will be .

sounds like you were creating a fuss over sod all - its all the same in most branches, if you want to withdraw over a grand then you should phone up in advance so they can get the money in etc

so STFU, live with it - if you dont like, then store your cash under your bed

oh and i agree about the £250 on the cash point. However if you have photo ID and proof of address you should be able to withdraw as much as you're able to from your account. If the bank doesn't have enough money then IMO that is pretty pathetic and just goes to prove how much money banks make by 'investing' our money in the stock exchange.....
