Having a full service done at the mo and its being done by a family friend.

Theres a filter type thing that can be found in the bottom right of the engine bay thats completely fallen apart, its like a plastic ring with some spongy bits round it and the spongy bits have fallen apart, it looks kinda like an induction kit but i dont think it is

if someone posts up a decent engine bay pic ill point out where it is, its a 95 GSi

thats part of your secondary air pump and NOT the egr valve as some people say

Been trying to find out what this is for a while, went to motor factors and they didnt have a clue. Im gonna go to Vaux tomorow so will post up then if no one told you what it is.

i wasn't aware that there was a filter-i ripped my secondary air pump out-then but a tube on the metal bit that is attached to manifold-and blanked it off-makes exhaust cooler first thing so it runs loads better imo
