Basically the roof skin is quite crumpled, most of the dent specialists say it'll take them a long time to attempt it, and it still may not be perfect.
Hence it seems like it'll need a new one. Now i can source one from a scrappy quite easily (out with the disc cutter :thumbs
I realise i'll need to take out the windscreen and take off the tailgate,
but, is it just gonna be as simple as cutting the old one out, trimming the new one up as neccessary then re-welding it down the seam along the gutters?

hehe sounds like a plan... after all it aint like its any good 2 anyone else, usually the bodywork is totalled anyway in a scrappy so nothin 2 lose even for the scrappy themselves!
Just wasnt sure if there were any quirks about it or anything? heard about those gutters being a flex point and wouldnt want the new welds splitting

Have to be carfull when welding the roof as the metal is thin and easly buckles with the heat from welding

i have loads of mates who buy land rover shells every month from landrover as each month the have to test a certan ammount of sheels but they cut the roof off afterwards (i think so they can not be sold on, but we have a inside man ), all they do is re weld them back on.
if done right your ok........
