if you are using XP, plug anything into the USB and XP will throw up a speech bubble telling you that only USB1 is in use, and wont operate at full speed Or tell me your PC spec and i will find out for you.

It is a Dell PC, about 12 months old. 3.06Ghz, 512Mb RAM, think its got a 80Gb hard drive. Is it likely to be USB2?

XP service pack 1 updates the USB so that it's version 2, service pack 2 also does the same

USB1 and 2 use different bus settings, its impossible to turn USB1 ports into USB2, its a hardware thang

doesnt have to be USB2, will work with USB1, albeit very slowly.
