3 men go for lunch they pay the waiter £10 each (£30)
the waiter tells them it costs £25 (£5 change)
out of the £5 they all take £1 back(= £28)
and give the waiter £2 tip (=£30)
so they pay £9 each = £27
and pay £2 tip
wheres the extra pound gone?

If they take £1 back each from £30 then the are leaving £27 and the change from £25 is the £2 tip from the waiter.

£1 back x 3 = £3
£2 tip
£2 tip + £3 back from change = £5
£5 + £25 meal = £30
No extra pound

they have all paid 10quid, and took a quid each back so that means they have only paid 9 each wich makes that
9x3 = 27
£2 tip = 29
my boss asked me this the other day, wreaked my head all day in work lol. he siad they've already paid the tip or somthing.

Eventually they do. At first they pay £10 each then there is £5 change. From that £5 change they take £1 each. Leaving £2 which is then left as a tip.

no
£10 x 3 = £30
Meal was £25
£5 change from the £30 they paid.
From that £5 they each take £1, leaving £2.
£2 tip.
Dont let the wording of the question confuse you.

but you could say.....
they all paid £10
but they where all given £1 back each...
therefore they paid £9 each!
lol tis tooooooo late for this shit!!

Its just made to sound confusing because you think it will be.
The numbers at the side aren't the way it happens.

The error here is that the equation explaining the situation is wrong. While it is true that 9(3) + 2 is not equal to 30, it is true that 9(3) - 2 = 25, which is the correct way of looking at things.

"out of the £5 they all take £1 back(= £28)"
this is wrong, how can three people take £1 each from £30 and have £28?

lol im findin this soooooo funny!!
your all trying to solve it!! but yet you are all unsure!!!
haha
£25 for the three meals... leaving £5 - the three pounds that where returned to the 3 men! leaving £2 for a tip!
or they all paid £9 each and a pound is left over
