Is there an extra charge for taking money out of the cash machines abroad?

I remember i was charged while in Ireland, but what about Hong Kong & Japan..

2.5%, plus your card issuers fee, if any. for example you go to spain, the spanish bank charges you 2.5%, you bank with natwest and they also charge you 1.5%. very expensive way of getting money abroad, you're better off taking travellers cheques, and using your card in shops rather than atms
