Hello ppl
Im selling the Astra Coupe to clear off some debts and will be buying a 1.6 Corsa B as a run around/project. Tuning wise, what would be the better engine to get? I have a budget of £2000 and have seen a few nice low ish mileage GSi's and sports about. Any and all advice is appreciated.
Cheers

C16XE pre ecotec is the better engine as far as power gains and tuning go, X16 ecocrap

yes the c16xe does respond to mods better but if you are going down the inlet route there is very littler difference i would personally go for a low milage x16xe

dont listen to Alan, he drives a Mondeo i think GSi's up to L reg were C16XE, so thats just K an L. hard to come by good clean examples now, since they are over 10yrs old. they were slightly more powerful, and made more power lower down than the X16XE, but it was only 3bhp. and only 1-2lb/ft difference. faaaar easier to find low miler Sport 1.6 in good condition, and once both have new inlet manifolds, they both respond very well to tuning. Throttle Bodies is the way to go, and is possible to see over 200bhp. around 170 will be very quick though, very revvy and should get a nice flat torque curve throughout the rev range if mapped properly.

thats bull alan, once the inlet has been changed for a performance one, there is very little difference between the 2. advantages of the X16XE far outweigh the C16XE these days. besides, the C16XE was/is an ecotec designed engine, and incorporated new technology like the Catalytic Converter and various new sensors designed to increase economy and reduce pollution

then many laws were passed in the EU to state that all new european built cars had to incorporate some form of exhaust recirculation into the system, hence the dropping of the C16XE for the X16XE

get an X16XE as if you want to change the inlet manifold you need a X16XE lower inlet.
I feel some GSi owner have problems with sensors and engine mangement light also the C16XE has the air flow meter wich seem to be fragile and exensive to replace

the first C16 engines WERE NOT ecotec designed

yes they were and sri-co is correct, hence the reason you can buy EGR blanking plates from Vauxhall for the X16XE
