Was driving along last night and felt my car judder. Ignored it and then it kept doing it. Couple of minutes later the engine management light came on! Light keeps coming on randomly and my car is bouncing around like a kangaroo. Its also idling at whatever rpm it wants to e.g. this morning started it up from cold so should of been ticking over at about 1100rpm on choke but was ticking over at 500rpm

Took it to Vauxhall 1st thing but they dont have time to put it on the diagnostics machine today so its gonna have to wait till Monday

Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I'm sure other people have had similar problems before. Its a 1.2 16v BTW

Also is it safe to carry on driving it as I still have to drive 12 miles home after I've finished work

haha i know the feeling, you'll learn to love it soon i was niave and thought it'd just go away but then after a week or so i thought shoot i really need to sort it so took the EGR out one weekend and cleaned it then hey presto problem solved

(sorry forgot the expensive part - sadly yes if i buy a new one vaux quoted me about 350 so i told them where to go and merely cleaned it out, was covered in shoot and now it runs smooth as anything - will be good for years to come )

When its idling it sounds like a rally car as its running quite rough as well as ticking over too high or too low

I'm guessing its not going to do any harm driving it home and then back to Vauxhall on Monday, I just wont use it over the weekend cos its very annoying! I want an C20 XE so if it turns out its going to cost loads then I may well sack this engine off

after my EGR i refitted my AFM wrongly and it was like that chugging u mentioned but in all honesty it barely started and was so lumpy... but then i realised and re fitted it back.

Apparently carb cleaner works on cleaning your AFM if u spray it up the intake
