Right peeps, my lass has £3200 MAX to buy a car with

She wants something that looks good (preferably colour coded) and is pretty quick on the road

She has a standard AX 1ltr thingy at the mo so anything will be an upstep but this will be her first proper car if you know what I mean

Insurance aint much of an issue but the highest she can go is grp 15

Any ideas???

Contenders!

Punto GT phase 3 Group 14
Saxo VTS
Pug 106 GTi
Fizzy RS Turbo

All good cars....

Or even a Corsa GSi if she can find a good one - and have enough money left over to pay her insurance for a year.

Teddy, shes lookin at the 106 gti and the 206 gti, the idea of havng enough money left over for the insurance is a great idea, maybe not the whole amount but it could pay for a good size deposit

Indeed. How old is she chap? Good driving history etc?

The 106 are very good cars but they do have a habit of going wrong as a mate of mine can testify i know its an isloated incident but he had £3k of warrenty work. Lucky really.

Is it better to buy a modded car or a standard one???

By modded I mean a nice set of wheels and lowered, no engine mods apart from an exhaust and filter at the most

I wouldnt. With "modded" cars you never know "really" what has been done to them - if its someone you know that has played with a car is different. with the age of the internet you can check things.

But i would not buy a "modded" motor unless i knew everything about it.

Best bet is to take her to a Car Supermarket let her see what she likes the look of / feel of best for around £4000, then shop about in the Private second hand market for a good example for her price range

I wouldn't buy a modded car. I always presume they have been ragged all their life. Nothing to say that a standard one hasn't been though

Still wouldnt perhaps bring forward what has "really" been done to it, if you know what i mean, modded cars just dont fill me with confidence at all if i dont know them - more so if 3k is at stake.

Get yourself on a 106 Forum and simply ask - best way.

I would stay away from the 206Gti's the early ones are crap. The 180's are good but obviously out of budget.
