Can i use a usb printer as a standalone printer on a network?

if you get a USB print server yes.

it doesn't..that's why i mentioned it was a usb printer..

So the only way really could be to have a server that is always turned on with the printer attached to it?

can you not get hubs with a usb port to share usb devices? i'm sure i've seen something like this
