What happens when you go to part exchange a car which is worth more than the car you want to buy?

ie. car you have is £5000, car you want is £4000

do they give you a cheque or something? or am i being stupid?

yeah think you just get the money altho you probably wouldnt get the full amount,bloody car dealers

I don't think they'd give you very much for your car.
