iam i right in thinking that if you say put 60mm springs onto a corsa with the original shock, and then later on you put an uprated shorter shock on to the car, the shock will make the car sit slightly lower then when it was on just springs, cheers

Not really, its the springs that define the height. If your using 60mm springs on standard damper, the dampers will break after a few weeks. Furthermore, your driveshafts will get knackered using lowering springs with standard dampers.
