Can anyone with a bit of knowledge with welding gimmie a few tips..

I'm after a cheap MIG welder.... and recommendations? And any down falls in using it in no-gas application? It'll be indoor (garage) welding.

i have a mig sip 130 (turbo?) got it from hafrauds for about £120 ish (naff box and a dent in its side)

dont bother with a no-gas mig as the welding wire is a fortune and not many places stock it

if you go for a standard mig you can then change the gas\wire about for the application you need it for (steel,alloy,stainless)

welding i much like spraying theres a nack to and it takes a bit of practice to get it right

arc is ok for bigger stuff like rsj's and chassie rails but it will blow holes in car panles as it to hot even car built in the last few year you cant even use mig you have to use tig instead (esp on french cars)

I was going to be using it on an '87 205!

you will get away with a mig welder on most cars... for sills etc.

my old tin can GTE 16v stood up to the test anyway


wouldnt bother trying to use it with no gas... you will just make a mess!

tig welders can be 3 times the price of migs used a tig twice at work and that about all i know about tig welding

No gas = splatered metal everywhere...

Just get a gas Mig wleder from Halfords or B&Q. Mine was about £200 and they sell all the stuff you need like the gas tanks there too, they are like Sodastream bottles

Not sure, I got mine from Halfords because it was there and seemed a reasonable price... I don't think that fluxed welds are very strong in comparison to gas welds too...

thats the bit i'm concerned about... not overly fussed about spatter... a bit of dressing can sort that out

the better the welder the better the weld
like most things you get what you pay for.
when i quailfied as a welder i went out and spent £400 on a second hand welder and i would class that as a OK welder

the more setting the welder has the better, the ones which are High Low are crap stay away....

heres a mates first go at welding (a few years ago) as you can see not enough gas, wrong wire speed and wrong power setting

well it took 2/3 grinding disc's to get the bugger off (well you learn by your mistakes)
