Hey
I'm half way through doing this (keeping heater controls) Im just at fibreglass stage now, did you all make your own top for it? the bit that the mfd is in? or did u use that and fibreglass that on?
Iam right using p38 filler?
also did you leave hazard switch behind tv?
cheers

If you can use the original mfd top, then do so (obviously you'll have to do a bit of chopping!)
I would advise you to glue it to the bottom piece using a VERY strong 2 part glue, such as mitre bond. Then do the fibreglassing/filling.

pretty sure that when i took my doorcards into be painted, the guy at the bodyshop said that i souldnt have used P38 on plastic.
Think you use P40 rub it down then P38 if you have any imperfections.
I do know however that you need to score the plastic for whatever your using to grip to it. And you will need to relocate your hazard switch so that its still useable.

yes i used the original MFD housing for the top piece
i just cut the bottom out, rested it ontop of the tft screen backing tray which was sat ontop of the heater pannel (inside the car) and fibreglassed it roughly in place with matting so it held its position, then took it out once it had hardened and finished it off properly in the garage
mask off the dash first as fibreglass gets everywhere!
Pic shows the screen removed from the backing tray

This is the end result!

p38 is fine for the job mate, did mine spot on as i used both p38, p40 and fibreglass matting
i put the mfd cover ontop of the screen backing first to get the angle of the screen right, and so i didnt have to fill in a huge gap like you have got there! lol then when it was looking right just resting in the dash i put a small amount of fibreglass and resin on the joins to hold them in place then i coould take it all out in one piece and finish it off!

Danny H i noticed you was asking about a screen in classified. I bought a headrest screen, so it has backing tray and tilts up and down.

looking good mate!
i put my hazard switch in the fuse box, its just about reaches, that way you dont have to cut any holes, just pull-back a bit of the insulating foam from around the wires and it will reach to the fuse box, i then just zip tied it to some metal work and there u go!
