yeh no doubt me m8's gti is very good on cornering and would deffo out handle my xe corsa.
but shear toque of 2.0 feels so much better than a revvy 1.6, and 2.0 is revvy

Have you ever driven the gti on your own? My Gti feels a lot quicker when it's just me, than when I even have 1 passenger - just due to extra weight and lack of torque.
However 1/4 mile 15.3 and 141.5 bhp from just decat exhaust and filter - they're not bad... and pretty even with a Corsa 2.0 to the speed limit - which you shouldn't be breaking anyway, so who gives a shit if at over 110 the corsa will accelerate a lot quicker.

I had same problem with my rallye, soon as you got a passenger in there serious and i mean serious drop in performance. guess it happens with torqueless cars, same with hills too lol.

My lass has a gti and upto 80-90 in a straight line there aint much in it only after that I start to pull away slowly its the torque you see , the twistes aint no contest, the 106 leaves any corsa for dead regardless of what kind of suspension you fit.
plus spend about £1k on the engine of a GTI and your lookin at 160bhp which will whoop ass an XE corsa

i agree with the passengers in 106/saxos. when i had people with me in my saxo it felt dead slow but then when i was on my own it was a total different drive

One thing though - everyone always goes on about the amazing handling of 106 Gtis / Saxo VTSs...
Yes, they handle quite well, i.e. you can chuck them in any corner and they go round, or try to take any motorway slip road thingy (the ones that curl for ever tighter and tighter) and providing you don't lift off they just keep turning
but I find my 106 'feels' more unstable than my old corsa did on 40mm gmax kit.
The 106 whenever it hits any sort of bump the back end sways up and down due to it being a torsion bar, rather than springs. I know you can fit a bigger torsion bar but I haven't.
Either way, I always hear people say 'in the twistys the 106 will leave it behind' - personally I get to the bumpy twistys and shit myself with all the torque steer and bouncy rear end swaying
I only nail it on straights / flat corners

its french
I have a gti and cant fault it for power, i agree with a passenger or 2 its not the same!
As for cornering i just cant beleive it, as paul said as long as u keep the power on it just sticks, if u have decent tyres!

But would a corsa GSI with say a good sealed filter Exhaust manifold and sytem with manzel/Lexmaul keep up with either of the above? and then what about a VTS?

When Sly_Sri had his Corsa GSi with Dbilas inlet manifold, air filter and exhaust system he was kinda level with my standard 106 gti. I'd still pull away a bit, but it was pretty close.
Kinda illustrated by my 16.1's 16.4's 1/4 mile times when my car was standard, he got around a 16.5 I think in his GSI with inlet.
Then with pugsport decat exhaust (imo best you can get for 106 gti (and subtle too!)) - and simota ram air filter, I started doing 15.3's - 15.5's.
So should leave it behind now. Though he's got a 2.0 16v now

I also feel unsafer in a 106 - in my corsa I felt if I had a crash it'd take a fair whack. In my 106 I know if I lose it, I'm gonna be getting air lifted
Also as willay said, that thing with the ditch and having my rear brake caliper seezing up when I slamed the brakes on, after having a car who was overtaking come at me head on, f*cking scared the shit out of me.
Think that's one of the reasons I don't nail it on country roads now, just incase. Don't get me wrong, I love corners and roundabouts are fantastic in the Gti - Either the left right, right left of going across a big roundabout or getting the back just slipping out doing 180 on one. Just so balanced and controllable.

Seems that there isnt much in it then really.
Makes me feel even more tempted to invest in a GTi now that i know they can stay with XE's.
Especially as my car isnt the lightest of Corsa's due to my body mods, hmmm so confused
