Bascically my mate thinks his 106 1.1 is rapid because it's got an air filter, ok its quicker than my corsa but thats because it's much lighter.

How can I prove to him, and anyone else that thinks Air Filters don't make your car quicker on a small engine?

you cant prove it as nobody is going to listen to you as abviously on the box it claims a 10bhp gain, so therefore it muct give 10bhp. and obviously you are going to be able to feel it.

most people hear the louder induction noise and assume that the car is quicker, when really, theres just more noise

but air temps on the rolling road can give flase readings of power. putting more air in your tyres also increses the amount of power shown on a rolling road

You will only see a difference in power when moving as its air entering the amount of air entering the filter that is different if at all, at a standstill on a rolling road you wont see the difference because there will be next to no air flowing through it.

I still doubt an any filter will give you a noticeable increase, maybe 1bhp at speeds but never a worthwhile mod for the money

in the case of my let, id rather have the std air box on it than a cone filter, but it wont fit on, hence the cone filter

how do you mean peace of mind thing?

the std air box is good enough to make the manufacturers power claims

Someone I know thinks their 1.2 clio is in fact a Clio Sport because her brother put on an air filter before he gave it to her. She maintains it has a 'sports' engine in it because of this!!!

She even bought a 'sport' badge from ebay to prove it.

technically they do make your car faster because they increase power

i would like it very much for someone to justify spending 200 quid for something which can be done for next to nothing
