If its the clutch, it could have just failed or it might have died because the car was being ragged.

Either both cars were faulty and have just worn through normal use or your mates are both rag arses. My friends and I have a 'break it pay for it' policy and in the event that we need to borrow each others cars we have the respect and mechanical sympathy not to kill them.

CV/shaft etc. wouldn't rev freely though? You might have some parts rattling around?

Could be a number of things here!
what to do for the moment is not blame your mate.. get the car checked out.. and then arrange for the person that broke it to pay for it.. my mates and i have the same policy
'u bend u mend'

mate had a cv joint fail last week. revved freely. but i agree, usually it would make some noises.

When mine went it made an awful noise and was even worse when was revved
Gear selects ok just revs normally when try to pull off but just wont move
Jake- Bite is about middle where it always has been
But my friend had it all last night and today

Could be either then. I'm sure if the clutch is gone then you can select gears without having pressed the pedal, which if it is CV you wouldn't be able to.
Also if you were able to jack it up and spin one front wheel the other should spin in the opposite direction. If it doesn't then its the CV.
If you're jacking it up though, it may as well be to tow it.
Have you asked your friend how it happened? Clutch would fail silently, CV you would hear.

He never mentioned any noises, slowed down to turn at a junction and went into first went to move then nothing happened.
Iv no way of towing it back home its at other side of town to me
Wouldnt know how to jack a car up anyway lol!
