alright guys and agls, lookin at def rebuilding my own engine now but still not sure whihc engine to do.
i'm def doin throttle bodies as love the noise and it doesnt seem like alot of work to do
not sure on weather to do a x16xe or a c20xe but dependsing which i do is the a haynes manual on both or do i just need to buy one for a car with that engine in if so i alreayd have x16xe one some were lol

aye get a one for that car with the engine in as it will have all the torque setting etc

nah, to be honest if you've got a basic knowledge of engines and mechanics its not too tricky. Engines are quite simple when ya strip them down, just allow yourself plenty of time

remember though that rebuilding an engine isnt just replacing old parts for new. u will need tools like micrometers so u can measure the crank and bores etc... and plenty of plastigauge!
ive rebuilt an x16xe and to do it properly isnt that difficult, great engines to learn on as well as they are simple. they are also great with throttle bodies
build it properly and it will pay for itself in the long-run. my engine was re-bnuilt 6000 miles ago and gets driven hard everyday (7800 rev limit ) and as yet ive had no problems at all, runs perfect.
smallblock is the way to go

It's all well and good being able to measure the crank shaft with a micrometer, but actually doing anything with that information is a lot more work. You also can't measure bores with a Micrometer.

now i'm confused all these long words i have no idea lol and may just go and exchange and pay cash for a reconed block from vuaxhall and just chnage parts for uprated jobbies which i want lol

You dont need to worry about that crap, it's only big words to make people look clever. If you are looking to tune the engine up a bit then strip it apart and re-build it wih up rated parts...

When your measuring the cylender bores you are looking for tapering more than anything else. You can do this with slip gauges and a piston.. Kinda difficult and in accurate. I would use a digital bore measuring tool. Just whip it into the bore and read the measurements. Make sure they are in tolerence and choose the piston rings accordingly
Anyhow, enough of that boring crap....

rebuilding is easy with a haynes, setting it up so it runs well, leave that to the pros

Just rebuilt a X20xev in my brothers Astra Lovely engine and just fitted an irmscher Exhaust manifold Great. Easy to work on and thats in the car too. Had head skimed all new valves the lot.
Think im gona go with this engine in my corsa now (XEV) canb get a good running 50-60K engine for £200 and the on road difference between this and the XE is minimal

i would like to do something like this, think i may look into renting somewhere to have as a workshop etc, then can start getting more tools.
not got much to loose with my corsa
we could do it together in maccys D carpark

i want to keep corsa as a 2nd car and work on it myself.
have a bunch of mates who rent a barn off a farmer and have about 5 cars in there that they all work on
costs em feck all, £20 a month each

im doing this, some bits i've paid to have done (new valve guides fitted, and valve seats cut) but the rest im going to attempt myself.
and why cant you use a micrometer to measure bores

anyway, it is important to measure the crank etc when building an engine! just guessing will lead to disaster, remember engine components are measured to thousands of an inch. for example, if the crank is worn and you fit standard size big end bearings, there could be a little amount of play between the crank and the conrod/ bearing cap. when an engine is doing 8000 rpm, the crank is pulling and pushing on these components over 200 times a second!
its not boring, its called doing it right. when you are building high performance engines that rev this high you might as well do it right if you want it to last.
