as title comes on about 2K and stays on
if u turn the car off and drive keeping it below 2K revs doesnt come on
seems to run fine and sounds ok
any ideas what it might be?

throttle position sensor?
actually, not sure if that will make a difference 
can you do a diagnostic?

Get a dianostic done by Vauxhall. Yes you can paperclip test it, but IMO paperclip tests are a waste of time.
