not 100% sure on this but i think that u can mount a sub newhere really as long as u can screw it down BUT the box helps to make the bass sound better

you need an IB sub, the id8 or comp 8 are good IB subs. although there has to be a sealed barrier between the space where it is mounted.

eg, parcel shelf
It needs to be strong first of all, the cone and magnet shouldnt be in the same space, if that means anything, so the cabin should be sealed from the boot. Hard to explain without showing a pic.

Y didn't you think of that Andy you idiot Im guessing your a TA user???
Actually some of the best sounding subs are IB. A lot of people with salloons swear by them.
What worries me is why you want to ditch the box? Its not a good idea with some subs.

if you want more bass you need to get some decent sub(s) and a mono block amp and mount the subs up in a custom bandpass or vented box desiged to work with those subs with the correct displacement and port(s) dimensions to optimize freq of the subs as low as you can get it eg.30-35hz. an off the shelf bass box say a 12" one are tuned (more likely throwen together) at around 48 hz and higher

As above. I have a Box design program should anybody need a design.
I would go for a vented/slot port box over a bandpass.
The problem is you won't hear a big difference in volume by tuning so low. But IMO you will gain SQ and low end bass... (that wobble stuff) known as streetbass.
Have you got a multimeter?

winisd says 15.63cu.ft is the optimum box size for both drivers, that will drop loooooooow. Unfortunatley im not into building vented enclosures, i stick with sealed for sq, register a Talkaudio.co.uk and go into the spl and streetbass section, and they will give you the info you need to build the box.
