the 1.4 8v engine is just about bullet proof, just make sure you do the normal stuff, oil changes, check coolant level, maybe change fuel filter and youll be fine.

The old 8v engines are bomb proof. You don't even need any oil in them to work*. They are great, and on 50k you have maybe 150k left on the engine

*I wouldn't try that though

104k, not done cambelt for about 40k, forgot to put oil in the other week and it was hardly registering on the dipstick. Does the bugger complain? Does it hell. Bombproof as said before.

In fact I think they run better when you neglect them! No oil in there means they dont have to waste power pumping it around, so you get more usable bhp...

they are so reliable and if parts do go so easy to change, unlike my gsi now, my 1.2 8v had 146k on the clock after i sold it and it only broke down twice in 3 years of owning but one was the fuel pump stoped cos it was dirty and the other was i didnt see the puddle

in the 1.2 8v, you dont get much choice i reckon my old one spent the majority of its life at 4000rpm and upwards, it was the only way to get the bugger to move

I never had any engine problems when I had my old 8v. Did about 60,000 miles in it in 2 years, all I did was service it every 10,000. It wasn't very fast but it always ran sweet as a nut.

Then theres my 16v engine that goes through sensors all the time. EML came on again last night
