Car went into the garage a few weeks ago to have the brakes looked at, while they were working on it they spotted play in the bottom ball joint so replaced it......

Iv heard a bit of clunking when on full lock and have tonight jacked the car up and spotted that it is the new ball joint.

Could it be faulty or is there anythiong I should have told them?? (it has MTECH hubs) presume they have just used corsa parts id this right???

what are the odds of the new ball joint becoming defective in only 200 miles?

what looks to be up with it?
the boot could have split and you lost your grease, but it's unlikely because they're so small.
is the bolt put in properly through the slot on the shaft?

how did you tell by just looking at the ball joint that it was knocking?

the bolt going through the hub carrier passes through a groove around the shaft of the ball joint to lock it in position.
i once struggled to get the ball joint in far enough to the carrier because i'd forgot that i put the bolt back in.

yes, dont make the same mistake i did by hitting the joint too far into the hub either or you will notice it will split

i noticed it was knocking as i jacked it up and pulled on everything there is play in it, think i will take it into them tomorrow.

just been back down and they reckon its the hub carrier, this isnt going to be cheap!!!

take wheel off make sure all th ebolts are tight before you let a place that seem to have got it wrong keep llaying with it.

Maybe they will carry on th elie rather than admitt they got it wrogn and didn't tighten it enough in the first place, after all they're getting more work otu of it.

iv inspected it myself and it is de tight, said they tried grindin the edge of a liitle to make it clamp up tighter. Will i need a new bearing is this not part of the hub not the hub carrier? or are they i dont knoe lol i knoe it has mtech hubs thats fit 2.0 cv's with corsa bearings but thats about it!

Is the spacer plate in the back of the CV before ti goes though the bearing?? Have you tried tightening the castle nut up??

well not everyone has a fly press in their shed, and no garage would do it for nowt unless you were pretty regular.

my bottom ball joint failed after 6 months of my xe being in, considering it was the original one fitted to the car i cant complain.cost me 18quid from work!

still having issues with this ball joint is fine assume the steering knucke is worn, will any std steering knuckle fit to my mtech hubs? how is this knuckle removed will i need to sort out a wheel bearing?

hmmm, the mtech hubs would need fittin to a std hub mebbe a new bearing

if the driveshaft is done up tight
the baljoint is tight theres no play in the cv's then get a steerin knuckle

drive shaft dine up tight as in the castle nut yeah? I can feel no play in cv's though it does clunk a bit when on full lock to the left.

check the cv's
jack it up put it in reverse and turn the wheel then put it in 1st and turn the wheel if you feel play of the clunkt then the cv is pished also do it on lock to lock aswell

im ahving trouble m8 m8 mine is the wheel bearing dude, i can actually spin one of the cups on the cossvaux hub by hand and it should have been a push fit on a press

have already tried that but didnt get anything put it down to there being no load on it.

Changing the oil tomorrow night so will have a good look and get back to you on the knuckle thanks for the help!!

lets hope its not the hub!! its mtech so it shoudlnt be!!
