Im taking the gearbox out my 306 TD to put an uprated clutch in is it worth sticking ona lightened flywheel while om there is it an advantage on a diesel engine or am i being stupid

i think the new ford engines run quite light flywheels! they are tuned to suit though! i would say you would lose rather than gain anything.

I can't see why the advantage on a diesel car would be any different to that on a petrol car?

they have plenty of torque... depends how heavy the standard one is..... ask the derv doctor

you will get a better on revs but you will lose top end speed !! 306 td already have high revs but they are low on torque !!

better acceleration but will lose momentum up hills etc...

corsash, you ever driven a car with a lightened fly? compared to a standard fly? this up hill momentum is a load of cobblers! unless you go mad and get a fly made of paper.

Shouldn't have an effect up hill. The flywheel is heavy so the inertia keeps the engine turning over at idle or low revs will not effect up hill performance
