I am looking to buy a kit car this year.. I want to do all the work on it myself..
I want to buy the full kit and then build it.
What kit car's are out there that will take the C20XE? Most seem to take Zetec or pinto engines?
I really want to use a C20XE.

Erm all depends really mate
if you mean all the work such as welding the chassis up?
or do you just want a bolt in the bag type of kit that you assemble?
99% of the kit cars have a xe setup you can use
you will need to get a 2ltr seirra for donor parts and the age related plate,
you will only need the basic engine from the xe, you will use the ford type 9 gearbox and a custome bellhousing to mate the 2
then it depends what your budget is
If under 10k look no further than MK engineering and there indy,
if over 10k then look at Dax rush and the westfield
any more questions then you know where i am

something like that will be the end result
if you dont know much about cars etc, and dont want the headaches id buy one already done to start with and change it, or sell it after a year when you know what you want

I want all the parts to bolt together.. not interesting in welding..
I would buy one, however they are so expensive..
I want to be as cheap as poss..
I mean some kits are like £5k, then 1.5K for engine = 6.5K?
just very rough lol

Yeh but locost, robin hood etc the quality is very poor, they use the sierra uprights all sorts, by no means there not crap but the engineering is very limited.
Most of them are variations of the locost setup
such as the stuart taylor like the green one, mk indy, tiger
donar car is £50 but gearbox will need refurb, new brake setup etc
in my opinion theres no point using parts that are 20 years old on a new car, especially if its going to have power. May as well get as many new parts as you can etc to start with

Wouldn't say a kit car takes an engine as standard really? Also, there are far better engines out that over a C20XE... Ones that actually kep thier oil inside them for a start.

would this be the set up for the gearbox(type 9) and engine youd go for if you wanted to make an xe escort mk2??

yes timmy, but to be honest... i think putting an XE in a mk2 is wrong, even if it is technically a cosworth engine, duratec or zetec are easier, due to the fact that they are easily adaptable from bit off other fords

agreed on a personnal note a think id favour either the bda engine or the twin cam lotus engine, but just wondering as to how they convert the engine set up to rear wheel drive

No the tiger is a good build of car, but i didnt like the styling but thats my opinion.
And Ed - all the kit cars have been done with an xe, they will just weld different mounts to the chassis at the factory as its been done times before. The reason they dont list an XE option from factory as the zetez/duratec is extremely cheap for a new one and they can get a good stock level. By the time they have bought what 20 new engines from vaux your talking a lot of money!
