Hello guys
my Speedo just stopped working all of a sudden
ive read a few posts of this happening to other people but the threads don’t seem to come to any conclusion as to the cause of the problem.
Also im not sure if this has any relevants to the problem, but this has also been mentioned in the same threads, and that the cig lighter has also stopped working.
while driving the engine management will come on, and now and again the car will cut out when i slow down and dip the clutch as in when im coming to a stop or a junction.
as this seems a common fault has anybody else found the cause of this and what i need to do to fix it
thank all

1 of the first things i did mate was to check all the fuses in the main fuse box, and they were all OK

wen my k-reg sri speedo stopped working it was the speedo drive inside the box that had broke up.
is it cable or electric speedo drive, have you check the cable, is it still fitted to the speedo head

The broken speedo WILL be the cause of the car stalling, EML etc.
Has happened a few times on here before.

operate the relevant circuit that the relay controls and hold the relay. if it doesnt click its broke.

is it possible that this could be something to do with any electronics inside the car (eg interior light etc). Could this be a problem with a loom coming inside the car from the engine bay??

theres so many things it could be when you start talking electronics
i wouldnt know where to start
someone whos had the same problem and solved it would be ideal.
the fact people have pin pointed certain fault relating to this problem is promising
i.e.
cig lighter not working.
reverse lights not working.
if people have asked these questions before ive mentioned them says to me that people have came across the same problems them self, all i need is one of those to follow this thread up and point me in some of the directions they went

this thread has some more info on the reverse light switch, might be worth checking that
http://corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=97688
Also, it seems that some people have had this problem when things like coins etc get stuck in the cig lighter (might be worth having a look), but this generally blows the fuse tho
One last thing, it appears that the rear heated screen is on the same circuit. Give it a test, see if it still works

lol
there we go again
im pritty sure the rear heated screen isnt working also, never really tied this in with the speedo problem.
so we have so far
1. ciggy light not working.
2. reverve lights not working.
and now thanks to PLANTY02,
3. rear heated window not working.
all 3 seemed to be connected some way with the main problem
SPEEDO not working.
so all we need to do now is figure out what connects all 4 of the above problems
ANYBODY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Hmmmm..... Same thing just happened to me (98 1.6L Barina swing). Turned out to be a 20amp fuse (no 18) cryptically labeled as KL15. Thought I'd mention it in case it happens to anyone else!

the switch for the reverse lights is located under the gear gaiter i think. Im not sure about that though but i think when mine went i removed the plastic surround from around the gear stick etc. And fitted a new one and everything worked. Vauxhall were gonna charge a around £20 for the part but i got it from partco for a couple of quid i think. If you have a haynes manual look it up mate.

To be honest if the reverse light are not coming on and the speedo aint workin i would say that is the problem. You can check to see if there is a speed signal coming from your gear box to the clocks by holding the two buttons down on the lcd clock display while your driving and it will show you the speed your doing that way. If theres a speed registering then you know its not the sender in the box or the cable thats gone
