Yes you will need an amp as the internal amp on a sound bard will not drive them. Try richer sounds.

Any amp -- they all accept a line level input, which your PC sound card should have (unless it's a cheap integrated job). You shouldn't use the green output socket -- what sound card do you have?
Your best bet it to go into a local Richer Sounds store and tell them exactly what you need, as Paul suggested.

Amp power should be matched to your speakers but a 300w RMS amp will be big money.
Depends how daft you want to go really.

I got one of these just because it has a pre-out as well as tape loop so I can have a sub in this room and run a wire to the living room and have tunes in there, where there's a Sony QS beast.
The cheaper Cambridge stuff is also good, the A1 is 30w but it would do the job. Only 79 quid, so you can't complain at the price.
You also need a 3.5mm jack to two phonos to go between the computer and the amp. I got some on ebay but they're a bit cheap and noisy tbh, not sufficiently well protected to use near computers.

Cheap enough though. Richer Sounds want a tenner for 1m ones, which are noise free. You pays your money you makes your choice!!

One thing ive learnt working in the av industry is not to cut costs on cabling. You definately get what you pay for.

No no no.
The pre-out takes the sound from that amp in to another room, where there's another amp. You don't need this.
Your computer can go in to any INPUT - ie. Tuner/CD/Aux/whatever (just not phono)

ahhh cheers mate. Will have a look around. What wattage/power etc does an amp need to run these speakers? (does not have to be full power, just to run them okay!!!)

If they'll handle 300, then 300!
Depends if you're going to be using them!

Ah they are '50 - 300W' power handling...
Depending on budget you could go for something along the lines of this...
http://ws1.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=NAD-C352-TIT
If you ever want surround-sound then go for something like this (I have one of these and really recommend it)...
http://ws1.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=YAMA-DSPAX757SE-TIT
or there's another Yamaha for £300 if you don't wanna spend that.
If I've completely gone over budget, then take a look at the Cambridge Audio A1 as Ian said. Decent sound and nicely under the £100 mark

Some how I doubt they are 300W RMS I have some 100W true RMS wharfedales and they are load as fuck as Ian will confirm. The amp is a sony QS 5.1 SS 100W RMS per channel. YES that is half a kilowatt of amplification power. I cna't wiat to get 5 speakers on it and an active SUB.

Lol, i just bought a £100 DVD home cinema surround sound from acoustic solutions a few years ago, used the RCA cables and connected it to my pc's speaker out, I dont have a 5.1 surround card in the pc so just use stereo and works fine..
