Take the head off of a 2ltr 16v XE engine???

A step by step guide would be great and any pics would be even better.

if you dont know, then might be worth getting somebody who does to help you. but basicly, remove cam cover, remove timing belt, exhaust manifold, parts of the inlet and then the head bolts.

I know a bit about it but I just need a few pointers or a good guide to follow, plus this will be a good learning curve

it's quite simple.
but make sure everything is disconnectedd before you start lifting it off, and it's probably worth buying or borrowing a haynes before starting.

All you need is a haynes manual really. It has a simple enough guide in it.

the best guide to doing is in the haynes... its simple enough

cam cover off.. set the engine to psiton 1 tdc... wip off the belt....

undo the exhaust manifold.. fuels lines unplug the injectors

off with the cam cover out with the head bolts...

may have missed some steps...

if you need any parts.... just let me know.

I have a spare head, lifters, valves etc.

PS.... it'll be rude not to whap a nice set of cams in during the head rebuild if its fucked

pic of the head, removed and stripped after bottom end failure. Its a KS head, with external oilway thingy

3 decent spare OE pistons too

i really really think you will ahve probs getting the inlet off in the car...

there is 2 bolts that are right up underneath that are hard enough to get to with the engine out...

leave it on and disconnect everything going to it...

isnt working of cars fun

it does, MattB has done it several times (he is a mechanic though), but i wouldn't like to try it, and i'd defo say it was easier to take the two off together.
